Health Information Questions

Page history last edited by Laura Clark Brown 15 years, 1 month ago
  1. Given the sensitive content and the small, but real, risk of identification even with redaction, is it unethical to digitize this collection—including the family case studies—and present these documents on the Web?
  2. If digitization is not ruled out altogether, should this collection drop back in the queue for a "cooling off" period, and what constitutes a responsible lapse of time?
  3. If we do digitize this collection, is it ethical to redact only names and street addresses and to preserve the other rich, but potentially identifying, detail of the narratives?
  4. If we digitize this collection, are we placing our donors at legal risk for violations of HIPAA?
